The Great Gatsby Set

2022 – The Star Theatre (formerly The Fugard) | Produced by CTTC

The Great Gatsby demanded a world of wealth, glamour, and dangerous beauty. The set design called for elements that didn’t just occupy the stage — they had to emanate it.

Six towering LED panels were designed and built for the production, each housing warm amber lighting that gave the stage the burnished, art deco glow of 1920s New York. Battery-powered and internally wired, they could be repositioned freely throughout the show without cabling constraints — fluid enough to serve the choreography, substantial enough to define the world.

The oculus — a large circular motif built into the backdrop — was fitted with integrated lighting, activated scene by scene to punctuate key dramatic moments. Where the pillars created atmosphere, the oculus created focus.
