August/September 2024 – The Milnerton Playhouse, Cape Town
A hilarious reimagining of Bram Stoker’s classic tale, blending the comedy styles of Mel Brooks and Monty Python, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors brought five actors, dozens of characters, and a whole lot of chaos to the Milnerton Playhouse stage. Directed by Wayne Hendricks, the production featured James Lister as Dracula alongside Grace Brain, Jasmine Hazi, Ingrid Pentzhorn, and Kyle McLachlan.
Hema Maskowitz served as lighting designer and production team for the run, building a rig that had to serve both the gothic atmosphere of Transylvania and the broad physical comedy happening in front of it — no small feat when the laughs depend on split-second timing and the darkness has to feel genuinely threatening one moment and absurd the next.
The production received a five-star review and ran to appreciative Cape Town audiences through September 2024.
